Baby found buried alive
Retiree was alerted by sound coming from rooftop garden.

A baby was found alive, in spite of a trash bag tied around his neck like a rope, and being buried in a rooftop garden at a Eunos Crescent block.

He was discovered by a retiree who heard a soft mew coming from the area, while he was having a smoke.

Speaking to a local newspaper, Tay Kim Sia said he thought it sounded like a cat in trouble, so he went to take a look.

He said he saw a foot sticking out of the soil, and a friend told him to not bother about it as it could just be a soft toy that was battery operated.

However, Tay insisted on trying to find the noise, so he hopped onto the planter and dug with his hands. Within a minute he found the baby.

He then carried the baby to a senior activity centre, where others took turns to cradle the baby, while another retiree went to call the police.

The baby has since been taken to the KK Women's and Children's Hospital, and is in a stable condition. The police are trying to locate the baby's next of kin.

Those found guilty of child abandonment can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
